Many people ask, How is orthopedic massage different from Swedish massage or other massage I have received in a spa setting? To be fair, all massage is orthopedic in nature on some level, but the type of massage I do focuses more on rehabilitation of muscle imbalance and joint disorders. Drawing on the knowledge of many great doctors, kinesiologists, physical therapists, osteopaths and massage therapists, Orthopedic Massage is a rehabilitation technique that is designed to re align fascia, break down scar tissue, lengthen muscle and reduce inflammation to get you out of pain, increase flexibility and restore you to normal activity. Below are some of the practitioners that have inspired me and my work.
(Leon Chaitow - Ida Rolf - Vladamir Janda - Erik Dalton - Thomas Hendrickson - James Waslaski - Aaron Mattes - Thomas Meyers - Janet Travell - Ben Benjamin and Whitney Lowe, just to name few )
Please arrive 10 minutes early to fill out a brief health history on your first visit. After your paperwork is completed a therapist will bring you back to a private room and will review your history and discuss with you any goals you have for the session. The therapist will leave the room and allow you to undress to your level of comfort and lay on the table face up with the sheet and blanket covering your entire body. The therapist will knock on door before entering the room. Your level of comfort is a personal matter and will be respected by the therapist at all times. Be assured that you will be covered by a sheet and blanket at all times and only the area being worked on will be undraped. At no time will your gluteal cleft, genetalia or breasts (females) be exposed. Due to the nature of Orthopedic Massage, you may be asked to roll to one side or the other and move from face up to face down and sometimes seated on the table depending on your issues. For females, a sports bra and workout pants are a good alternative. For men, a pair of gym shorts will work well. If you would feel more comfortable with someone in the room during your session, feel free to bring them along.
